Hi! New from Central New Jersey

Hello! and thank you for allowing me to join. Myself Ken, wife Shanon and son John(yrs.) started camping as a family about 3 yrs ago. We started with a 12 person tent. It worked for us for many of trips and enjoyed it. But last spring after 2 separate Black bear encounters both 2 weeks apart the second one resulting in our tent being knocked down. We decided it was time to step it up and get a trailer. Was not at the time ready to get a new tow vehicle. So after doing some research (some on here) we found a leftover 2018 Outback 21urs that fit our needs well. Very happy with it! Our tow vehicle tows it well (2012 Grand Cherokee) but close or slightly over weight. With the help of Amazon my wife added another 1000 lbs. So once all is back to normal will be looking for a new F150 and hope to get many trips in this summer. Looking forward to be spending some more time on here...

Rath, welcome to the forum from our temporary shelter in Florida. And might I suggest in your search for new wheels, seriously consider a brand of 3/4 ton instead. You and Momma will be glad in the future.

Welcome to the forum from the other end of the states

Congrats on you upgrade. Lots of good information and loads of great people here. I too would advice getting more truck than you need, once the RV lifestyle bug bites you its terminal and you might be looking for a bigger trailer...I know I did, I'm on my fourth.

Hello Ken & Family, welcome to the forum!

Although tent camping is fun, those bear encounters--not so much.

I would suggest "camping" in it a few nights at home to get familiar with the systems and features of the TT.

Cheers!

From Central CA. I too would suggest 3/4 ton or bigger tow vehicle. We towed with our half ton for five years, but the 2500hd is much more stable platform. Enjoy your new trailer and safe travels.

Welcome to the forum, from the great state of Minnesota! I'll echo the suggestion about a 3/4-ton... if you know you're in the market for a truck, definitely shop the 3/4-ton now. You'll be better equipped for now, plenty of room before you reach gross weight on those axles, and nothing holding you back later when you upgrade your camper!

Happy camping!

Totally agree!
And it doesn't necessarily have to begin with a F to giter done, just my opinion.
