Soft Start A/C

Has anybody added a soft start to their AC? I we have a new 326 RDS and I just bought a generator for some dry camping during tournaments. Thought the idea of a soft start on the A/C's may work well with the generator. We bought a Predator 3500.

Any help is great!

Todd

That generator should be large enough (wattage wise) to start the A/ C unit without doing a hard start kit.....unless you have other 120 volt stuff trying to operate at the same time. Your A/ C unit will normally pull around 15-16 amps when running (which is right at 2000 Watts), but start up of the compressor will be approx 3.5 - 4 times that amount.......but generally it is for less than 1 second of time for the current to drop back down. I would suggest trying it and see if it works for you before buying the hard start kit.

probably a good idea. Hoping to get the generator unboxed and broken in for 8-10 hrs before a real load is put on. I don't need it this weekend. Probably safe to try before I monkey with a ac and void a warranty.

i agree with not messing with an AC under warranty

but if at some point during the future you decide you want a soft start i would research the microair easy start
