Total van at near 7000lb trailer would not exceed gvwr. The empty wt.of van is 5460lb.

Just looking at "first blush" the van GVW is 8600 and the trailer GVW is 7700. That's a total of 16300 which is 1700 pounds more than the max GCWR. While it may be "doable" you're going to be at or over the GCWR with an extremely small V8 powering an extremely heavy load.

That would be true if the van was fully loaded .van will be at 7000 I am aware of the wt I carry in the van about 12 to 1500 lb max.

You asked for opinions, two have been offered and you've given reasons why they aren't valid considerations. Seems to me that you've already made up your mind that it will work and you're looking for someone to say, "I'll hold your beer while you try it" If you're as sure as you seem to be, why ask what others might see as a concern? I think a 2 passenger commercial panel van with a very small V8 is a poor choice to tow a heavy travel trailer, but I'm not the one behind the steering wheel.

I didn't say they weren't valid opinions I was just giving the actual wts. I am aware that if both are loaded to max it would be over the combination wt that is the reason I replayed with the true way. Thanks for your option it was appreciated.

The posts above said what needs to be said. Do what you want but I don't think any thinking person is going to say "it's OK' to jump in and tow so overloaded with that van.

Given your own information, the van weighs 5460 and you carry 1500 pounds of cargo. That's 6960. The trailer GVW is 7700. Added together, that's 14660, 60 pounds OVER your GCWR.

If I remember, you bought that trailer in May, about 7 months ago. Have you towed it over a CAT scale yet? If so, what did the weight slip say? If you haven't, chances are, living in the northeast, you won't be able to tow it to a scale until spring. December is a bad time to begin worrying about something you can't validate for 5 or 6 months..... Again, just my opinion.

Looking on the Chevy site, it looks like those capacity numbers are for the 6.0 V8, not the smaller 4.8 engine. With the smaller V8, you probably can't do that heavy a trailer.

Thanks but the numbers are right of of the door of the 2017 express the 2500.gvw 8900 owners manual combanition wt 14600 .you are correct for the 2018 THEY did away with the 4.8 in the vans and added the 4.3 and a small diesel all have less tow capacity than the 2017 express .the 6.0 has more .

Burley, I'm inclined to go along with what has been said. I would be particularly interested in your CAT scale printout. Give it a try the next time you're out and about. Going over is kind of fun if you haven't done it before. It's at least worth the $12.00 it costs and you then have the info you need to know for yourself what you should do.
Best case is you're borderline on the weight, but if you think about traveling with this rig you are going to drive a regular boat sail on wheels. Towing at 60 mph won't be a picnic.
