changing couch - Slide weight Capacity

Hi folks- new member here and was not sure where to post this. My wife and I are full time rvers in a 2014 Montana 3850FL. This is a front living unit with 5 slides, 2 are in the front living area. The 2 front slides are each 7 foot long and are raised about 6 inches off the floor. We are looking at replacing a not so comfy couch with a recliner love seat. There are a couple of things that I was looking to get answered but unfortunately the Keystone factory folks pretty much punted on answering.

I was looking to see how much weight we could put in the slide. The love seat we were looking at was about 220-250#. We also need to extend the depth of the slide platform about 12 inches as it is only 30 inches deep and since it is about 6 inches off the floor an extension is needed. I was looking to see what was behind that 6 inch rise and if a board could be attached to the vertical (6 inch part) and the top (flat) part of the slide. I was thinking screws but did not want to mess anything up behind or below. Keystone said they did not have a clue what the slide weight capacity was and that they could not answer the other question as they do not recommend modifications.

Any thoughts out there?

Welcome to the family.

If you can't find the manual for your slide in the stack of paperwork that came with the trailer, you can get the manual online from the manufacturer. (possibly Lippert or BAL) Their customer service should be more knowledgeable and helpful than Keystone. IMHO, as long as the weight is spread out evenly there should not be a problem. If you extend the platform to ride on some kind of casters there should not be a problem bringing the slide in or out as long as you have the room.

The manual is pretty generic and does not address anything close to this. I had not thought of the castors. Good idea and simple to install.

So the idea of screwing to slide is still the issue. I am not sure if that would be a problem.

If your screwing into the slide, I would be careful. Watch the length if your going into the floor so it doesn't protrude and cause damage.
Most every slide floor I've seen is pressed particle board, so you might want to take that into consideration when you figure out the placement of the furniture.
