Passport shower head issue

We have a brand new Passport Elite 23rb. On our first trip out with it, my husband and I both used the shower and noticed an issue. We normally camp with only electric hookup, no water, no sewer, so when we shower, we turn the shower head off and back on during the course of a shower; off while soaping up, applying shampoo, etc. and then back on to rinse, in order to save water and not fill the grey tank too quickly. Well, every time we turn the shower head back on for water flow, it comes out freezing cold for about 3-4 seconds, then goes back to the temperature that we had it running at. We are not completely turning the water off, just shutting the overhead shower head flow and it's only for a minute or so. Has anyone else experienced this and know of a fix? Thanks in advance!

Ours does the same thing, and I'm sure that is very common. Sorry, don't have a solution, and it is something we just are used to. Have been full time for almost five years, and does it every time we shower. I just aim the spray toward the wall for the couple seconds it takes to warm up.

The "blast of cold water" has been discussed here before and on other forums. The solution is very simple. Add a check valve to the hot water supply line of the shower and a "complete" shut off valve that stops the slow leak of the shower head.

A nice video I found of someone modding their RV:

A previous forum discussion of a fix:

I'm gonna hazard a guess on this. Since you're only on electric, that means you're running off your water pump. it pumps up and pressurizes the system. When you stop the flow at the shower head, everything stops flowing - hot and cold alike. Pump catches up. When you open the shower head, you get a quick release of the pent up pressure - and it's going to follow the path of least resistance, which is the cold water flow. After that little burst, pressure's normalized between both hot/cold lines and your premixed tempered water flows again.

Thanks for the reply! We are camping this weekend with water hookup so we'll see if that makes a difference.

It happens on city water too. We have just learned to turn the shower head. For the record this is another phenomenon that isn't limited to Keystone products.

Yup. My hubby just showered and it was the same. Our previous camper didnt have this issue but everything else about the new Elite is better so I'll deal with it 😁

That looks like a decent fix but not really easily done with pretty much hidden plumbing on many of our RVs. It is something to consider. But, since we have a 10 gallon HW heater just leave the shower head partially on high dribble. Yep, it does waste some water but we very seldom camp without at least a water and electricity hookup. The amount of water wasted per person might be a quart or two and in the grand scheme - wont overfill that bathroom 50 gallon gray tank in a couple days.

Here is another option to a fix that was reviewed in Trailer Life.

I've not used it but did want to share the info. Good luck.

That might work with a single handle faucet. Most trailers I've seen have two handle faucets. Only place I've seen single handle is in higher end Class A's. interesting though.

RV shower Head fix

Have had the cold-water shock in different RVs. Found the perfect - inexpensive -fix. Get a CAMCO RVMarine Showerhead at your dealer or online. Comes in chrome/white/off white. Simple to change out.

Example: http://www.campingworld.com/shopping...it-white/34904

Bought a new Residence this year. Before my 1st shower, replaced the cheap showerhead with one of these. They're great!

I agree with Foleyo. I recently bought this shower head and noticed no shot of cold water when turning on the spray like I did with the original shower head. Much better than the stock showerhead. Got mine at Amazon.com

I have the Oxygenics Shower head on mine since new, cant say I love the shower head but I don't get the cold water blast though I never showered with the original head so don't know if it was a problem.
