Flagpole Mount - Sidewinder Pinbox

I see posts from time to time about options for mounting a flag pole. Not having a rear ladder, those adapters are of no use to me. The plates where a wheel is parked on it not an option, wheels on one side of my 5er are under a slider, other side has the awning, don't want to take down the flag each time we move the truck. I considered the receiver hitches, half the time I have a bike rack in hitch on back of trailer, again, with truck, have to store the flag when we want to use the truck.

I looked at options for the pinbox, didn't want to drill into the Sidewinder. With the longbed truck now and Sidewinder pinbox pinned in place (no wedge in the way anymore), I "sandwiched" the pinbox with 2x10, mounting a Flagpole To Go base with their 14-foot Adjustable Pole.

Only problem I ran into, despite how they are advertised, the base is a much larger diameter than the pole. I fixed that with 2 sizes of PVC pipe, one with a good fit in the mount, the 2nd, fitting inside the 1st PCV pipe, fit the pole perfectly!

A bit large (and heavy) to store, but flag pole is secure! I have Reveille and Retrieve recorded for playback when posting and retrieving the colors each day.

Pictures!

I have one of the wheel stand mounts, for my 20 foot flag pole and I put it under the tongue jack.

I posted a picture of it in This Thread

I wonder if the landing jacks on a 5er would work too?

Might have been an option, but the "arm" on the ground would need to reach, better part of 2' under the trailer. Appreciate the thought!

Tom,

Nice Job, you've got my wheels turning!

Have you thought about adding a 12 volt aftermarket "backup/reverse" light to light up "Old Glory" through the night? You have a ready power source right in your trailer plug. I tried LED, but it was too blue for my taste. I settled on a cheapie halogen from Wally-world. As long as you're on shore power, your battery can handle it overnight with no sweat.

Pull Toy, you bet! I've seen the solar powered devices in use at campground (not bright enough, in my opinion, to do the flag justice). I've looked at other 12v and 110v options, I'm continuing to look. For now, to properly retrieve the flag at sunset is a minor inconvenience. For now, very happy to be able to proudly fly the stars and stripes.

Tom,

If you're on shore power, a quick and easy suggestion is a clamp on halogen light designed for your BBQ. I picked mine up at Lowes or Home Depot, I can't remember which.

I have a ladder, so I'm mounted there, my front 5th wheel stub mount is for my POW wind sock. My pole consists of a standard residential flag mount base, and a 20 foot telescopic window washers pole ($29.00 +/-) and a bungee cord half way up. I lite it all night with a switchable BBQ lite 35w / 120v of pure white lite. Mama calls it the "LITE IN THE NITE" as we can always find our way home by it. What I especially like is the fact that I can pay GOOD tribute to Ole Glory without lighting up my neighbors site. These lights are bright, but highly directional. When my 35w burn out... I upgraded to 50 watts, which will really knock your socks off!

I like the concept, certainly gives me an idea for things to watch for. Your point of lighting the flag, not the campground is well made.

Texas Parks & Wildlife Department has partnered with the McDonald Observatory, the International Dark Sky Association (IDA) and local astronomy groups to promote stargazing. Renovation of current parks and design of new ones takes into consideration "light pollution." This will certainly weigh heavily in my decision as to which light, and even if I go with one at all, or just keep to my original plan and retrieve the flag at sunset each day.

Thanks again.
