Adding a ceiling fan

Has anyone added a ceiling fan? Not sure how complicated a job it is.. I suspect there are a lot of variables as with everything.
Thank you

Re: Adding a ceiling fan

I have no experience adding one to a trailer, but can't imagine that it would be very easy. In a home, where you normally have access to the attic, it's a pretty simple job to pick up an existing circuit, secure a work box to the rafters/truss, and bring the wiring into the box. In a trailer, there is no "attic" space to access anything. Maybe someone will come along that has done this and give you a brighter picture/option, but I'm not thinking it would be very easy or feasible.

Re: Adding a ceiling fan

Yes X rated I hear you . I have installed a lot of them in houses . Hoping someone who has taken the challenge with successful results.. I'm pretty sure I can make it happen if I stay close to the A/C unit as I can pull power from there and access into the ceiling.. not a must have but would be nice.

Re: Adding a ceiling fan

If you've installed them in houses before, then you certainly know the importance of making sure that the box is very well secured to something solid...a metal roof rib or ??? This would become even more important in a trailer as it is bouncing around a lot when travelling on the road. I'd hate to pull up somewhere to camp and open the door and find my newly installed fan in pieces and laying on the floor....or worse yet, fall down while you are under it in the living room or wherever you place it.

Re: Adding a ceiling fan

Google is great.. the fans are 12 volt and just replace a light that " should be " attached to ceiling framing.. no box needed and framing for support. I will need to check out the ceiling support part and give it some serious thought.

Re: Adding a ceiling fan

The vent in the kitchen ~~ when I bought my 5er I asked how easy to mount a ceiling fan there guessing it was strong enough for AC. Did not get that far as the tech said there are wires there for ______ (cannot recall) but would not be proper for a fan. Have more mods before that becomes a priority and am sure pulling wires would not be fun.

Re: Adding a ceiling fan

Ceiling fans come in 12V for RV's. We have installed a few.

Re: Adding a ceiling fan

Looks like a 12 volt ceiling fan weighs about 7 lbs. Is there support in the ceiling where the current fixture is? My DW would be thrilled with one over the bed!

Are you asking about a ceiling fan like in a house, or a vent fan like a Fantastic Fan?

Re: Adding a ceiling fan

I added a small 110 volt ceiling fan in the bedroom of a Wildcat 5ver I had. I already had a 12 volt fan in the living room.

Ceiling fan

I think camping world can do a fantastic fan for about $125 installation, if that is what you are talking about.

Frank

He's thinking a fan that hangs from the ceiling. Standard equipment on a Tiffen Class A motor home, 12VDC two speed reversible. I'll post a pic in the morning.

We have a factory installed fan in our living room, 120 volts, and the only thing I can think that would be a problem beyond finding a power source and a secure mounting spot would be clearance above any slides that might contact the fan.

I was wondering about this as well. We have a big, horseshoe-shapped dinette table in the front of our RV, with ample lighting. The middle ceiling light/lamp is hardly ever used. I'm under the assumption (we all know what that means) that putting up a small ceiling fan (yes, the ones with blades that get dusty) here would be doable? I take it that it needs to be a 12 volt RV fan?
