^^^ What he said: If the contacts inside the switch aren't making contact, "jiggling" "moving it off then back on" or "thumping it with a finger" or "using a rubber hammer" (as one member likes to do with his stove) all serve the same purpose: Repositioning the contacts against each other.
So, moving it off then back on serves the same purpose as "jiggling"..... At least in "JRTJHese".......
Also, you still haven't indicated whether you've got a digital thermostat or a manual type, just that the "switch is manual".
