Outside rug

Wha is everyone using for a patio mat? I have a plastic mesh from a papermill converyer belt that works well, I have seen indoor outdoor carpet, etc.

Of course you could Buy one made for it, but what has creativity done for YOUR campsite rug?

When we had our pop up, I bought a piece of astroturf from Home Depot. After the first heavy rain it went into the campground dumpster as it retained a ton of moisture. I bought a woven plastic mat from an online pet supply retailer that fit perfectly under my little pop up awning. Once we traded up I went to www.rvawningmats.com and bought the same mat I have been using since 2007. It still looks great. I will hose it off 2-3 times per season but that's about it for maintenance. No, scratch that - I spilled a can full of bacon grease on it back in 2009. I sprayed Awesome Orange on it, scrubbed it lightly with a brush and it came out looking good as new.

The woven plastic mats are great in that they do not retain moisture, will not mildew, take up very little space, are light weight, are durable as heck and allow sand, water and small stones to filter right through. One of the best accessories ever.

Well said, and one other benefit that we as campers sometimes forget about: The woven plastic mats don't kill grass nearly as fast as astroturf or other options. In some campgrounds, you can only use the woven mats and even then, they must be moved every 2 or 3 days. Saving some money on a mat to keep dirt out of the RV when that option actually makes the problem worse by killing the grass is sort of like cutting off your nose to "spite" your face... Def no clear winner when we make more dirt than we should by killing the grass. Just my opinion

The woven mat I got from Camping World is a little weak on the folds. Some of the weaves are breaking from folding up my mat after every use, and it’s only about 10 trips old.

More mat stories

Our green weave mat is about 3 years old still good shape. But when the winds come up it blows corners up. So we also purchaced large door mats for each door. It helps to keep the green mat tarp down and takes the dirt off our shoes . And whats grass all we have is dirt in the desert.

In addition to the woven mat, we also use one of these to keep the dirt off of shoes -

We bought this cheesy door mat back in 2004 and it still gets used every trip.
