Balanced tires

Is it worth having tires ballanced on new 5er?

I have always balanced my wheels. The trailer will run smoother especially since most trailers don't have shocks.

x3. would you drive your car w/o balanced tires??? Most tire mfg say unbalanced tires can be a cause of tread seperation and failure. And, I have found stuff stays put in my trailer much better than friends who don't have balanced tires. Finally, I believe that balanced tires will subject the trailer and frame to less stress as well.

IMHO they aren't balanced from the factory just to save a few $.

but, this is one topic that tends to generate some lively conversations!!

Only if you plan to move it, LOL.

Ever wonder why some people always ask how to keep doors closed and dishes in place when towing? Step one, balance tires!

Howdy All;

Ya ever go rollin' down the road with one of your tires out-of-balance on your family car or tow vehicle?
Remember the feeling of the thud-thud-thud as it rotated?
Now multiply it by 4 and that what you will have if they are not balanced.
me, I like a smoother ride and so for me "The Rig" (TV & trailer), will both have balanced wheel/tire assemblies.
Just my opinion...

Now if ya need to do some laundry you could put the clothes in the tub if ya have one or a sink, large bucket with some soapy water and drive a hundred miles. Rinse and hang out to dry...

Tire balancing

This may be a very silly question but where do you go to have it done?

My dealer doesn't do it and most tire shops have no room to bring in a 5er.
Do the big truck stops like Pilot or Flying J do it and how much do they charge?

Thanks,
John

Johnnyfry, Howdy;

They don't bring them into the shop to take the tire/wheel assy. off the trailer.
They will do it in the apron area or some other designated area that they have for that job.
Call in advance to ensure that they do have an area to do it.

I would say it a must. Running on un-balanced tires will shake the heck out of your trailer. Discount Tire or any tire shop will do it for you.

I don't think the truck stops are set up to handle small wheels .... but I may be wrong. When my trailer was new I took two wheels at a time to a tire dealer (spare and one off the trailer) that way I only had one wheel jacked at a time. I think they charged $8 a wheel same as they would if I towed it there. Some tire dealers will take one off at a time in their parking lots if you want to tow it there. Big companies like Sears and KMart usually have lots with plenty of room. You will be amazed at how much weight some of these trailer tires require to balance them and without shocks how much vibration must be transfered to the trailer. JM2¢, Hank .................... If you decide to take the wheels off yourself be sure to follow jacking and torquing instructions from Keystone manual.
