Fire Restrictions... New Mexico & elsewhere

It's not yet the middle of May, and parts of New Mexico are already at Stage II fire restrictions.

Stage II means no open flames -- campfires are prohibited along with charcoal grills, coal or wood stoves. Smoking is only allowed in an enclosed vehicle or building...
[in addition to restricted use of outdoor equipment powered by external combustion engines, etc]. http://www.nmfireinfo.com

Wild fires were a serious (& deadly) issue in several states last year, so while traveling please be aware of any fire restrictions along your route.
Fire restrictions (aka Burn Bans) apply to 'RV Parks' too, not only State & National Parks and Forestry areas.

You can also check other states here: http://www.firerestrictions.us [see 'All States' tab]

TandE, Howdy;

I live in Sierria Co. and this is a link to the restrictions that apply in my area,

http://nmfireinfo.com/2013/05/07/blm...cres-affected/

Not as bad as some think, read carefully understand what is being said and
you'll be alright.

Thanks for the info. We won't be down there till about a month from now. The only thing is we are staying around Albuquerque and one place we were thinking of staying doesn't allow fires I believe. ( American rv park). My grandparents are staying at enchanted trails and I need to see if they allow campfires or not. It's not Big deal but It sure is nice to relax around a fire at the end of the day.

My biggest concern is our dog an wanted to stay at an area that has a dog park or run.

Never camped in New Mexico before.

TandE, Howdy;

Please read the first link in KanTC's Orig. post.
Figure out what the area is that you'll be in or
County, State Park Nat'l Forest etc. and read the
section that applies. Of course The State Forester
has the final word on anything that isn't covered
by the other bureaucrats...
If you need some help figuring it out just ask, one of us
will be glad to help confuse ya ... (joking)
