Smile PayPal DOES Stand Behind The Buyer.

I recently bought an item from a scammer (I didn’t know that at the time of course). After repeatedly trying to get the issue resolved, I thought to enter the dispute with PayPal, as I had used them to pay the scammer nearly $100. Today I was notified that they had considered both sides of the story, both buyer and seller, and decided in my favor! PayPal is refunding my $100, and then they will try and get the money from the scammer. In any case, I got my money back!!!!

I always wondered if they really did try and settle disputes, now I know. What a great company.

Be forewarned that you can only file one dispute for a purchase. Mine worked out, but I made a purchase, then wasn't hearing back from the seller in ten days: email, phone call, texting. So I filed a dispute. That woke the seller up and they got back to me and said they were processing the sale, so I closed the dispute. The seller backed out of the deal but did refund my money. Had they not refunded my money, it appears that there was no way to open a new dispute. Customer service said the same. I don't know how well my credit card company would have been able to handle such a problem.

Had it use it once on an item I did not receive. Seller would not respond and even closed his account. It was not much, $20 I think but Paypal refunded me.

Same with my cc, had booked a hotel and later called and canceled. When my cc came in I was charged for half a night each night for not calling and cancelling which I had done. I tried to deal with it through the hotel but the manager would not return my call, gave the cc the info, dates, who I had talked with and the steps I took to resolve it on my own. They refunded my card before the call was over and stated the hotel now needs to prove otherwise. Hotel never called them back ether.

Howdy All;

This was back in 2004, Before the class action lawsuit.
I 'won' an auction for some DeWalt portiable tools, a set
of 5 for $530.00. Sent off my payment, waited ..... didn't
hear from Sellor. Sent email through ebay, answer said
there had been a 'family emergency' sorry about the delay .....
Waited another 2 weeks, nada, zilch. Attempted to re-
contact seller ... nobody home. Turns out, after talking to
the Moscow, Id. PD, the address was rented to some
students at the Univ. of Id. Recon they needed 'Spring Break'
Funds. There were 3 others that had bid AND WON the same
tool set. and both ebay and paypal aknowledged that.
Contacted Paypal, ..... Sorry about your luck, we'll look into it.
2 weeks later I contact Paypal, Oh, we can not do anything as
the seller closed their account... thought we had told you.
I told my Credit card Co. what had happened, they sent me a
form, I filled it out, and had my $'s back in short order. That was
at the begining of a month. When I got my next Statement, I had
a Big suprise... PayPal had gone into my checking account and
TAKEN the $530.00 out without asking or notifing me of their action.
My bank was happy to rectify the situation and canceled the transaction.
Untill I changed my email address and moved away fron Oh. I couldn't
utilize Paypal because they insisted that I owed them the funds?????
Why would I owe them in the first place??? Don't they just transfer the
funds from the buyer to the seller after extracting their 'cut of the action'.
Kind of a Leagle money laundry ........

I'm done now.

PayPal didn't stand behind me either.... and both the seller AND I were hosed before it was all over.... I'm guessing that this website is still alive and well after a number of years because they still have issues....http://www.paypalsucks.com/
