Staying at Smokey Bear Campground just outside of Gatlinburg, TN. Have to say that it's a nice place!! Not a large campground by any means. The owners are very hospitable. The owner's wife walks around the campground at least once a day. She will stop by your site if you're out and say "Hello", give some advice on where to go/what to do, and is very friendly.
One of the best maintained campgrounds we've come across. Lake in Wood CG near Lancaster PA would be in that short list too. Smokey Bear has level stone sites. Landscaping is well done with rocks and flower beds. Flowering bushes scattered throughout. Rest rooms, showers and laundry are immaculate. It's not Jellystone, doesn't have a 20' water slide, but it does have a playground and pool for the kids. They had line dancing and ice cream for July 4 dessert. Our 7 yo granddaughter has been having a great time!
Very convenient to the Smokey Mtns. The park is very large....so no matter where you camp, you have a drive to get to the major visitor centers. Closest is Sugarland 20 to 25 min away. There is a bypass around Gatlinburg so no need to crawl thru town traffic. (We enjoy the park.....probably wont even walk thru town.)
Definitely recommend the Smokey Mtns and Smokey Bear Campground!!!!
