your thoughts

I was wondering if this would or could work to eliminate the need of buying a back up camera when backing your rv into a campsite. Just use your cell phones and have wifey use facetime backing into your campsite. Your thoughts

I bet it would work. I prefer my DW get the cat into the carrier for transfer, been backing without help since 1989.
What if your in an area of no cell signal?

I can't see a reason it won't work if you have cell service and a cooperative DW...

I don't think I'd ever do it myself... but then I don't own a backup camera either... But as a country boy I been backing trailers into tight spots since before '63...

I'm sure it would work but if someone's already back there what's the need. I've taught my Wife to be on the driver side of the truck/trailer so I can see her and just a couple small hand gestures we're good. Plus I think back up cameras have super wide angle lenses and don't think facetime does.

For just over $100 I bought a wifi backup camera that I will mount inside my back window on the trailer and plug into the 12v outlet under the TV. There is an app that works with Android or I-phone, and I have an old Android that I replaced with an I-phone but it still works fine on wifi. It can sit in the indented area on my dash, and stay on all the time, for backing or just seeing what's behind me when towing (such as a cop, or long line of cars)

I have heard that some who have tried using a WIFI camera, experienced a delay in the video long enough to make it a problem.

Usually no cell when boondocking and tree branches can be an issue. Rather have the wifey as a spotter.

Yes, in my testing there is a noticeable but less than 1 second delay from turning on the camera to seeing an image on the phone. In my case it will always be on, more like a rear view mirrors, so that's not a problem. If you connect it to the car backup lights, you would have the delay.

Not quite that long, but that is what mirrors are for. DW only keeps rug rats from running behind the rig.
