Gray water dumping.

I don’t want any more to crawl under the extension and stick my hand between dirty tires to dump the kitchen gray water. So I plan to install this automatic valve.

http://www.barkermfg.com/autodrain.html

Has anyone installed this? I would like to know if I can connect it to the wire used for a light; the instruction does not list the power requirement.

Thanks

You can download the installation instructions here: http://www.barkermfg.com/auto%20drain2.pdf

They call for an "UNSWITCHED 16 GA WIRE" to power the device.

I have not installed one, but if it were me, I would run a "dedicated" 16 ga wire from the fuse panel in the power center or install an "inline fuse" in a 16 ga wire from the battery. With that device, if it should "stick" or get "hard to open" it will be drawing quite a bit of DC current and should be on an individual, fused circuit.

Take pictures and let us know how the install goes. A lot of us are faced with the same "dumping problems".....

Good Luck

That's funny. I remember seeing a rv a couple of summers ago and there was a bumper sticker on the back that said don't tailgate or ill flush.

After looking at the manual it shows it to be installed with a 1/2 amp fuse. You should be able to pick up power from nearly any 12 volt source.

I will check the gauge of the wires used for the light and probably connect to it using an in-line fuse if it is big enough.

Thought of something else, the valve opening is off to the side of the pipe, so I am afraid the weight of the auto-valve with road bumping might damage the connection between the pipe and the tank. I wonder if I should support it somehow.

Never saw one before but sure looks like a great idea. When we had hard to reach handles I took a pole and put a loop on it to be able to push and pull as needed. I guess I could have used a fire poker as well. Good luck, hope it works for you.
