Replace Coleman Thermostat, Have you done it?

I have a 2015 Fuzion 371 with the Coleman Mack RV Comfort Thermostat. I would like to replace this out with an thermostat that has the AUTO feature so that it would switch from heat to AC as needed depending on the set temperature. Similar to the Dometic Comfort Control which I have had in a Previous RV. Has anybody switched these Thermostats out?
Thanks

There's previous threads on the forum about changing thermostats... granted, probably not the same 2 you're asking about, but maybe some of the "wiring" info might be helpful.

I switched mine out in November to one that is digital but not programmable. Piece of cake.

I paid $25 or so for a Honeywell model RTH111B at Home Depot. There are some extra plugs on this one that are not needed (heat pump and something else). I did not use two of the wires from the existing trailer system to this new one which are for the hi/lo fan settings. I just used the high side since in my mind there really isn't anything different.

I've used the new T-Stat for a week over Thanksgiving and a 4-day trip in January - works great and love that I have a digital temp readout inside the camper.

Couple of links (different model and easier to follow if you get the exact same model T-stat):

http://www.loveyourrv.com/rv-thermostat-upgrade/

I had the two links above handy plus the directions for the T-stat during completion. Also, do a search on our forum here; you'll find the two links have probably posted in previous threads too (like said above).

CarbonFun: No Real Responses yet. Something that I defiantly want to do.
I will keep you posted.

Thanks SoCalCPA. Might have to look into this.

We are remodeling our stick build home so I have a spare residential digital thermostat. I will play with that and see what I can come up with. I believe the key is to have a battery operated unit to start with.

A few years ago, in my 2008 Wildcat I tried to change from Dometic analog thermostat to a Coleman Mach digitial just like you have pictured. It would not work because the voltage from the ac relay board to the thermostat power in (red wire) was stepped down to 7.5 volts. The Coleman Mach thermostat needed 12 volts to work. Alot of people use home thermostats, but then you don't get a choice of using low/high fan speeds. Some just wire it and are okay with fan on high or install a toggle switch to get both fan speeds.

Stat

Hello, I replaced our Coleman with this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It has the auto feature and works really good. You do lose the hi/lo fan function though. We never use the low fan anyways. It wasn't too hard to install - just follow the instructions and look at the spec sheet online for the Honeywell. http://yourhome.honeywell.com/home/P...e/RTH5100B.htm There's a couple of wires that aren't used again.

Thanks JoePK,

I might give this one a try

Okay So here is where I am at with this. Most (All that I have found) Residential thermostats are powered by 24vAC from the Furnace and send out a 24vAC signal to power on the Furance or AC. As you know our RV's are 12vDC.

I did purchase this Thermostat http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...f_rd_i=desktop

and a few other items to drop the 24vac to 12vdc coming out of the Thermostat that sends the signal to the Furnace and or AC to kick on.

So Heat works fine with this however when the AC comes on the heat comes on also. Still some tweaking to do but as of now not sure I can make this work 100%. Really needs to be a 12vdc thermostat.

SOCALCPA I am at a loss as to how you made yours work given the parameters that we are working with

I haven't given up yet.......

The model he bought was battery operated. It does not need external power to work.
I had my Lux battery operated digital programmable t-stat laying around from when I switched over to Geothermal and installed it the other day. Works great! Gonna be really nice for the times when we show up on weekends when its chilly or hot out and need it at a comfortable temp before we get there rather than wait for it after we get there.
