Purchasing a dryer - Amperage Required

Not a lot of options out there for side by side 110v dryers. I don't have room in the toy hauler garage to put a unitized combo in due to the cabinet/tv over the w/d prep, and refuse to buy another all in one.

I've narrowed my search down to getting a Whirlpool set, since the GE doesn't have a "match" you end up with a top load washer, it just looks odd.

Anyway, to the point, so I can get the 3.4CF whirlpool, 110V/15A and plug it right in, but then I saw the 3.8CF 110V/30A model.

I know its possibly to add a 30A breaker and run 10ga wire and install a receptacle, but would this be worth it? Ultimately the power consumed will double, but is this the right thing to do, considering other power requirements of the raptor.

Has anyone done this? Is there a better option?

I have a Splendide 210XC washer/dryer combo that is 110V in the garage. It isn't bolted down, so I can remove it for trips when I need more room or it isn't required. Works pretty good.

So after lots of research this weekend, there really isn't a 120V/30A dryer, for some reason, Sears shows it as 120/240V however looking at the manufacturer specs, it only says 240V, should have known.

Anyway, trying to work a craigslist deal now for a splendide washer dryer, separate units.

I missed by 1 day, a whirlpool washer and dryer set for $150, the washer needed a motor (which I later found out the drive motor for the whirlpool units found in a lot of campers costs just as much as a new machine, $672 for the motor at searsparts.com).

So if I cant get the splendide set that was just posted on craigslist, then I will get the Whirlpool 120V dryer, and a full size washing machine from sears outlet, since it is double the capacity, fits, and is $175 cheaper than the RV model.

Thanks

Another option you might want to consider is an LP gas dryer. They use a 15amp 120 volt circuit for the drum motor/fan and LP gas for heat. That would give you "full power drying" with a 15amp circuit. You'd just have to run a "tee" from the closest LP appliance and install an additional LP line from that appliance to the dryer.

I would like to do that... I wonder if that would be efficient.. or a pain during the winter months..

I've never done it, but I have seen it as an owner installation on several "permanently located" RV's. By permanently located, I don't mean "wheels removed" rather, RV's that stay in one place through the summer and get towed to storage for the winter.

All of the ones I've seen have 100 lb propane tanks connected rather than the 30 lb tanks. I wouldn't suppose it would be that much more propane use, but I don't have any specific use information.

Many people who winter in place will rent a bulk propane tank rather than use mobile tanks. It's much cheaper to buy propane for a 250 lb tank or a 500 lb tank rather than refill 30 lb tanks on a weekly basis. If you're going to be in one location, that is another consideration.
