Campgrounds to avoid

Soon to be traveling West Coast to Fla. Traveling I-40 to Texas, then down to I-10 the rest of the way.
Suggestions of where NOT to stay?

Thru Texas it's going to be difficult to find a site at any State Park or COE. Ordinarily, I could give you a list of our favorites along your route but they are operating at reduced capacity due to the Corvid-19 and are booked solid because camping is about all the entertainment they are allowing nowadays.

And even that was pretty much shut down until June...

Good luck with your trip

Arrowhead Campsites

Hi. One place to avoid in Florida is in Marianna. Arrowhead Campsites goes by a few names and all are to protect the guilty. Loose dogs, kids with 22 rifles roaming around and some awful campsites. They usually have sites available but the above reasons, along with some very nasty office people is why they have openings when everything else in the area is full. All campgrounds have a few issues but out of 127 campgrounds we have stayed at in 38 states this is the only one we would NEVER go back to. Happy camping and have a safe trip!

Places you do not have to avoid

Texas and Louisiana have designated some of their Rest Areas as " Safe Rest Areas" (nomenclature may be a little different). Auto and RV Parking in areas separated from the trucks, with armed security patrolling all night. We stayed in 2 of these last fall and one was perfectly level and room to put out our gen and run our AC. The other was full when we arrived about 10Pm and the security guard moved his car to give us room. Other RVs and autos came and went during the night and one couple put out a small tent in a nice grassy area. Free coffee was offered after 8 AM.. We travel with our 35' 5er. Check with state DOT for info.

I wouldn't assume many campgrounds along I-10 from Orange TX to maybe Lafayette LA would be open. Damage from hurricane Laura was pretty bad. However I believe Coushatta Casino in Kinder LA is open so maybe their CG is open as well. Call first.
Let us know what you found.
