Jacks work with no battery?

Since I do not have the luxury of keeping my 5'er with me at home, I take it to a storage field to store it. I always remove the battery and take it with me to plug into the battery tender. My question is can I simply leave the battery out when I take it to the storage place and still use the jacks (off the trucks battery? Is there any way to go that short distance with no battery in the RV?

You need the battery to operate the emergency brake!

In a break away situation, the trailer brakes would not work without an on board battery.

As far as the jacks, it would depend on how the jacks are wired. If they are wired through the converter, they probably run from truck power. If they are wired direct from the battery, they would not. Next time you are hitched up, disconnect trailer battery and try the jacks.

On my trailer, the slide out will operate from truck power, but, power tongue jack does not.

I remove trailer battery after TT is in storage and bring it with me to get out of storage.

Just remember that motors do not really like to operate on low voltage. I suspect unless you actually use jumpers from the truck battery to where the RV battery SHOULD be, you are asking to damage the jacks. You might measure current draw and decide yourself.

On my TT the manual warns to NEVER use the electric tongue jack without the TT battery installed.
