Sure Guard 35550 install problems ???

I was going to add a remote display to the Sure Guard 35550 that was installed in my Avalanche by the dealer.. Admittedly I asked for a Progressive EMS but with the Covid not everything we want is readily available. The dealer had the Sure Guard so we went with it.. Not all that happy by it, but that's life with Covid.

Anyway when I found where the tech had mounted the unit.. I discovered this... First two photos... so I wrote Southwire to question if this was really going to be a problem.. THE Answer..

The manufacturer of the relay inside the unit recommends unit not be installed with the label facing the sky. The reason for that is if the relay spring or another internal part of the device breaks, the relay would fail in the closed position since gravity would engage the contacts. Failing energized is a very dangerous condition. I do not believe Southwire will honor a device warranty when device is installed with face pointing towards the sky. As to whether the mounting should be immediately changed, that is up to you. The device has a very very low in service failure rate so I would not suspect any problems.

The remote display panel for that unit would be the 40300. When you purchase the remote device, make sure the communication cable comes with it. It is an RJ12 six wire, straight through cable.

My solution.... 1/4" 6061 Alum bracket Last photo

Well......what can you say? Reckon the installer just couldn't cipher plain English AND pictures right in front of him? I think I'd want to meet that person.....or maybe not.

This is what I'll be getting....some time soon. Just told DW I was buying a new MicroAir thermostat to dump this DometicCT piece of junk so don't want to throw that on her at this moment....maybe in a week...

I love ours - 30A version. Even use it at home when plugged in at the house.

Nice work on the bracket, Javi. You should at least email the dealer so that the tech doesn't do that to someone else's unit.
