Glacier National Park

Update to those planning to visit GNP. Just left this morning after spending a week in St Mary Campground. St Mary is limited to hard sided campers due to increased bear activity in the campground (I didn't see any bears in the campground). Effective yesterday they vacated all campgrounds and hotels West of Logan Pass due to the smoke and decreased air quality. We woke up to smoky conditions this morning. The Park was absolutely beautiful and I would highly recommend to all (just not now). Stopped in Helena, Mt this evening (fires around here also) heading to Yellowstone in the morning. So far visited Custer State Park, Mt Rushmore, Deadwood, Sturgis, GNP, Waterton National Park (Canada), side trip to Calgary, Alberta Canada. Five days planned in Yellowstone area, then on to Fort Laramie, WY. Still planning trip back to Biloxi. safe travels all.

Sounds like a good trip. We spent 5 nights at Glacier CG, outside West Glacier, before the smoke got bad. At that time (8/15-8/20) the main fire was no that bad. We could see it from the lake, and there was some helicopter water dumping being done. Sounds like it got a lot worse. Went south after that, saw eclipse in Rexburg ID, then had a week in Yellowstone. Now outside Custer SD for a few days before heading back to Indiana. I saw a lot of complaining on Google about Fishing Bridge CG in YS, but we had a great time there. Yes the spots are a little tight, and if you don't know how to back a trailer you will get to practice there, but it is in the middle of YELLOWSTONE and it doesn't get any better than that. Reserve a spot early and enjoy the park.
