Electic connection

Okay this is for you electical wise guys. I don't like to leave the Big cable hooked up to the camper when it's in storage. My question is could I buy a new connector and splice a heavy duty extension cord onto it so if someone steals it I am not out that much and it won't ruin a camping trip. This is only used to keep the battery charged. Am I asking for trouble with this idea. Since I won't be running anything with a heavy load I don't see a problem. With all the copper thief around here someone who see that cable won't pass it up.

If you must you can buy a pigtail about a foot long that will plug in to the camper and then plug an extension cord in to that. I think I may have got mine at Home Depot.

AC connection

As long as the outlet you plug into is on a circuit breaker rated for the cord you use there should be no problem.

Just don't plan on turning on too much stuff.

Check CW for Power Adapters, should be able to find something there or even on line at some of the other big RV Outlets. You just need something that will plug into the power connection on your rig with a standard 15 amp plug on the other end to plug into your extension cord. I have one for our Montana, 50 Amp to rig, with 15 amp on other end approx 12-18 inches long.

The adapter people are talking about is something that you should have in your arsenal of gadgets. Should you ever end up somewhere where they don’t have a working 50 or 30 amp hookup, but the 15A plug works, you’ll still be able to plug in and get limited power.

They have similar adapters for 50A. Though I don’t know what your hookup looks like, so hopefully something will plug right in. However, if this is a permanent thing for you, I like your idea of making your own cable – just be very careful on how you wire it.

Let me see if I'm on the right page... We talking about a cord that plugs DIRECTLY into the camper power OUTLET and then is only about 18 inches long? The dogbones still have to have your big cord plugged into the camper. I'd like to have something I can just throw on without lugging the power cord out. Extension cords are much easier to work with.

DJ just got mine in the mail today from Amazon it was 40 bucks it is about a foot and a half or so long and plugs into the 50 amp on the back of the trailer and has a 50 on the other end to which I have a 50 to 20 adapter that i plug into a regular ext. cord. And as you have problably also found with your 327 that if you do not have the second A/C you don't need 50 amp anyway so for that I have a 50 to 30 adapter and use a 30 amp cord so i dont have to use the heavy 50 amp cord. Anyway check amazon it is a Camco 55562

Just to clear things up! All I am wanting to do is have a connection that goes into the camper, (50 amp hook=up) that I can plug into a regular outlet. I don't intend on using this other then to use it just to keep the battery's charged up and not so inviting to a thief. I don't want to run an a/c unit. So I need a 50 amp connector on one end that goes in the camper and just a basic 3 prong connector it does not a certain lenght at all.
