Has anyone replaced a gas strut on a dometic power awning I have one strut making a shuttering noise when I bring it back in. I tried you tube but did not find anything. Thanks

Many times that noise is caused by the tension knobs on the awning height adjustment not being loosened before retracting the awning. If you haven't yet checked, loosen the two black knobs on the bottom of the awning support arms, then retract your awning. Your gas struts may not be the cause. Good Luck !!!

I extend the arms completely out and tighten the knobs before retracting. I know this is not the recommended way, but it's the only way I can prevent the
the problem the OP described.

Yes knobs are loose I'm pretty sure the cylinder is the problem was just checking for any do or don't when replacing. I didn't think you could retract with knows tightened. Thanks

I loosen the knobs, make sure the support arms extend all the way out and
retighten the knobs. Retract the awning. Works great for me.

You should have the arms fully extended and the knobs loose as you close the awning. Once closed I advise people to just "snug" the knobs so they can't back out and take a different off ramp. Seen it a few times.

As far as the strut: even when the awning is fully extended the strut isn't. I've replaced a couple and I can say it ain't easy!

I had shuddering also, a few drops of oil on each moving joint cured it.
