Heading to Pismo Beach
Leaving this Thursday for four days up the 101 from the Orange County area. Should be about a 500 mile round trip and a warmup for our long trip to the Black Hills in SD. Weather should be perfect. If anyone has any driving tips like roads to avoid or areas of interest that would be great.

Sorry no tips but its a beautiful drive. The only drag about the drive is the 405/101 intersection. Busiest intersection in the world. Go slow lots of cars but I'm sure you already knew that. We just got back from a long weekend at Solvang another nice spot to visit. You should have a great trip.
WHere are you staying. The wife wants to do a beach trip.

We are staying at Pacific Dunes RV resort. Been thru the 405/101 before. It's a beast to get through when busy. we'll probably get thru that spot around noon time, so maybe most of the morning traffic will be done. You never know in LA. I also heard Pismo Sands RV resort is good too.
Thanks Jerry

From what I remember Pacific Dunes is on the sand with no trees, it is nice but Pismo Sands has grass and trees. We always stay at Pismo Coast Village.

Hoffbrew, your probably right about Pacific Dunes. We'll try it and see how it works out. Next time out there we'll try Pismo Coast Village. Thanks for the info.

When we stayed at Pismo Coast Village, we were assigned a site on the south end of the park. Roomy sites, but the only grass was a strip between our row and the row behind us (about 8 ft wide). Our entire site was decomposed granite. It had rained just prior to our stay and the grandkids tracked a lot of DG into the camper Someone on here said that the spots on the north end are much nicer.
We liked Pismo Coast as it is walking distance to town and the beach, however, we liked the atmosphere, cordiality of the staff, and the campsites themselves better at Pismo Sands - even though it's further from the beach and town (about 3 miles)

Definitely have to request North side sites at Pismo Coast Village or the 2 first rows on South side. When you arrive, just ask for north and staff will make it happen.

You gotta roll up Grande Ave just past the 101 for the best pizza you will ever have... Klondikes. Then right across the street is Doc Bernsteins ice cream factory.... you can thank me later!!!
