Recommendations for Air Conditioner for my trailer

2011 Raptor 300MP Hey guys, I’m desperately trying to figure out which model of ac units will work for the front bedroom. It’s prewired and we need some more ac. Camper world said to get a low profile due to clearance. I just ordered the dometic penguin 2 and it is too big on the front of the camper. It’s 40” long and I have about 16” from the rear part of the opening to the edge of the roof where it transitions to the 2nd pitch(back half of the roof). Do most people just order a regular ac unit and not worry about clearance? Any model suggestions would be great. Thank you!

This question was moved here from an old thread from 2013. None of the members who posted in that thread are still active, so a new thread would likely generate up to date information.

Welcome to the forum

As far as I know, ALL AC vents are 14”X14” and if you look at the dimensions it should fit if the factory prewired the vent for it.

The unit may be 40” LONG, but the hole that mounts to the roof opening is at the rear of the AC.

I know my hole is 14“ x 14“. What I was talking about is my roof system has two surface planes… one over the front bedroom with a steeper pitch, and the rest of the roof is a different pitch. The hole I want to put an air conditioner is on the front part of the roof. That hole is only 16” from where the two pitches meet….. so if I put a 40” air conditioner up there…. 10” of the air conditioner is going to be hanging in the air over the back part of the roof. So what I was asking is there a low profile model anyone knows of that will fit in that area or do most people get a regular size air conditioner and not worry about clearance? Or is there a low profile air conditioner that I can flip around backwards because I have more surface area going towards the front than I do to the rear?

Overall height is a concern if you’re approaching 13 feet tall. As long as the roof unit is properly secured, I’m not sure what the issue is with 10” “hanging in the air”. Is it sticking up so that the wind will get under it at highway speed?

If you mount a standard unit will it not hand over?

I would be getting a tape measure out.

Hopefully you can see the Attatchments. Is it okay for the air conditioner to have part of the base sticking in the air. I would assume it would create vibrations while traveling. Also would assume it would raise the overall height above what it would be if I just ordered a regular unit.

Most of the models of low profile ac units have the intake and return area at the front of the unit. So that’s why I’ve measure from the front of the 14” opening. I realize there will be a couple inches overlap, but still around 7-8” of overhang in the back?

I think that even a standard unit would not stick up much further than the antenna already is.

Every front AC unit I have seen sticks out like a sore thumb, but aside from aesthetics, as long as your total height when connected to the truck on flat level ground is under 12’ 6” you should be good.

Okay gotcha. The general specs for the camper list it at 13.09’ so that’s why I’m a little concerned. Was just curious if anyone who owns a 2011 raptor had a model recommendation. Thank you for the help.
