Exclamation How safe is Page Az

My wife and I will be visiting Grand Canyon mid May. We have 10 days reserved at Trailer Village Rv park. We are considering shortening our stay there and moving over to Page for a few days. Hopefully we will survive the bumpy drive over on 89.

I have read that Page isn’t necessarily the safest city in Arizona. Any advice on where to and not to go? Also, should we stay on 89 all the way into Page or should we turn right at The Gap?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Page never struck me as a security issue. It's no worse than Mesa, and considerably better than anyplace around Houston.

In Page proper (unless you're an Elk) there are only two CGs. I've stayed at Page Lake Powell (which is nowhere near Lake Powell) and won't consider it for future trips. The other one, The Canyons, is rated 10/10, so I would likely try them. If you want to be on the lake itself, there's the Antelope Point Marina, in the same price range but not as highly rated.

I've avoided 89A in the past. 89 through Kanab is very scenic and easy on the rig. You get gorgeous vistas of the lake on the way into town.

89 vs 89T is a matter of choice. One runs through the heart of the rez, the other doesn't. They're both OK roads, the scenery isn't that different.

If you were going to be proceeding southward, I'd recommend the Cameron Trading Post for a meal. Gorgeous canyon vistas from the dining room window-wall, and their fry bread lunch is legendary.

To be honest, crime is a weird one...

I have stayed in some out in the middle of nowhere camp sites and have had vandalism, half tank stolen, etc. In some areas that are considered high crime and very densely populated, I haven't really had any issues. From my experience, most people stay away from campgrounds and most are generally safe, even in shady areas.

I've not had a bad experience in the area you are going and been there a number of times.

Just did a shakedown cruise with our new rig and stayed (for the 2nd time) at Lake Powell Wahweap CG in Page. Took in an Antelope Canyon tour while there....beautiful place.

Crime was no issue....the 40mph winds on the other hand....

Sites are spacious, FHU and some have good views of Lake Powell's heavily depleted water level. They are about $90 per night.

If I'm not mistaken, I think it was Rt 89 that has an absolutely horrendous 25 mile stretch of wavy pavement that ends about 10-15 miles from the Lake Powell CG turn off. It comes into play both coming and going. Speed limit is 65 there but I was lucky to go 50 on it, before feeling like I would shear the rig from the truck.

Lots of great country to see around Page. Most people don't need 10 days to see the Grand Canyon.
I doubt security is an issue ib Page.
