Angry Key TV Controller

I installed a new Key TV Controller since the one that came with the camper had no blue light. Which the fuses were good and I had 12v going to the unit. Since no blue light I had no TV at all. So installed new unit had a blue light until which now had cable TV from campground. BUT once I attached the antenna connection to the key tv controller no blue light and no TV. Note the antenna connection is attached to Winnguard on top of the 5th wheel. So can anyone tell me why this happens? Or what could be happening here, that I could check. it is my understanding that the Key TV controller blue light has to be on for all functions, Ant, cable and Sat.

Welcome to the forum

If you have 12VDC to the KeyTv box without the roof antenna attached, I would be checking the coax for a short. It only takes 1 strand of the shielding to short out the coax.

You will have to remove the coax from both ends and then use an Ohm meter to test for continuity between the center and the housing. if there is the cable is bad, most likely the end which can be replaced real easy. if its not then your roof antenna is suspect.

If it worked until you tried to use the antenna, I would say the antenna or coax to the antenna is suspect. The KeyTv box is a glorified distribution box. It can be bypassed/eliminated pretty easy, and many people do.

I have one of the first trailers built with KeyTv and have never had an issue, but that could be because I almost never use it and prefer my Amazon Firestick instead.
