Need to replace my awning
I need a new awning. The manufacture is Dometic. What is a good replacement awning? I see a lot sites online that sell awning fabrics, but I'm not sure what makes one better than the other.
Any suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks
Daryl

All I'm gonna say is "you get what you pay for". Me I'd replace it with the same brand fabric. Also make sure the awning has plenty of "uv" resistance. Oh ya, one more thing get at least one other (maybe 2 more) people to help you (from experience).

I agree with the “you get what you pay for. Measure from the center of the arms for the correct size, and 2 people are needed.

I have replaced the fabric on our last 2 campers. One from EBay from a local supplier out of Elkhart and one from Amazon. The first hasn’t given us any issues in the 3 years it’s been on there. I am hoping to install the other one next week. I will let you know how it goes.

My only suggestion is to get fabric with the gimp (cord) already installed. I’ve done with and without, and there’s no contest- installed is WAY easier.

I was thinking of this site.
RV Patio Awning Replacement Fabric
I see it has a 95% UV protection, and mildew resitant, however, I don't see anything about a gimp cord. Not sure if I even know what that is.

If you look at the series of pics it says “plastic stick”. That is the gimp cord. If it’s not already installed in the fabric, you’re going to play heck trying to install it.

I saw that in the photo's. It doesn't appear that its pre-installed....so, if that is an issue, is there another brand/site that you would recommend that has that item pre-installed?
Thanks
Daryl

I would call them and ask first.
The shop I work at orders the fabrics so I don’t know where they buy them from. I have helped friends and used this site:

I bought replacement fabric online from RV Awning Mart two years ago. Seems like a good product and the price was very reasonable. DW and I replaced it in about 4 hours, definitely need 2 people for the job. Highly recommend watching one of the online videos found on youtube before attempting the replacement.

Another thought on this thread....
Since I am in the same situation as the original poster, I am shopping for a supplier as well. One consideration that I have had, being a former boat owner, is to replace the vinyl with acrylic. I see that ShadePro offers acrylic for Dometic awnings but they want to know how many metal slats my awning has, 5 or 6. I don't have any metal slats and they have not responded to my questions about this. Has anyone replaced their vinyl awning material with acrylic?

I bought both of my awning fabrics from shade pro and I am very pleased with the quality. Installation was fairly simple also.

Cord is sewn in
If you read down on the website that was linked it says the cord is sewn in and comes with an installation tool included.

It was the link you posted from Shade Pro. I thought someone had questioned whether the gimp cord was sewn in or not.
