That doesn’t sound right, my 2021 GMC Sierra 3500HD SRW with Duramax has a 21,100 lb gooseneck/5th wheel rating with max. pin weight of 3,165 lbs.

Bumper pull is rated for 20,000 lbs with max tongue weight of 2,000 lbs.

Not sure where you got that bit of info....but I can tell you without even looking anything up....that is dead wrong.

That doesn't sound right. My 2019 3500 SRW Duramax is rated 17,300 on the pin and 13,300 on the ball. 3797 Payload. I find it difficult to believe a 2021 DRW is lower.

In the early days of toyhaulers, we had some "conventional hitch toy hauler owners" who have had to resort to putting sand bags under the front bed just to approach 10% tongue weight when they loaded the garage. So, the manufacturers "answered that problem" with increased pin/tongue weight and created another issue, that of inadequate payload on trucks to haul the larger ones... Few toyhaulers in the "over 38' lengths" can be towed with a SRW truck and some of the larger ones require "more than a dually"....

As for steel vs aluminum wheels, there are several aluminum wheels available from various wheel manufacturers that have the load capacity ratings for the larger triple axle trailers. If a salesman told you a specific trailer had steel wheels because of load ratings, I'd look more at the manufacturer and where that model is 'cutting corners on equipment" to keep the MSRP in a specific price range... If installing aluminum wheels is their answer to lower price, I'd wonder what else is "under budget but hidden from customer's view".... Hmmmmm
Forged aluminum is quite strong as evidenced in the use of forged Al on aircraft. You are correct-there are many sources for Al wheels that have sufficient load capacity.

You need a dually. My 2019 F350 dually has a payload of 5598. 20,000 is a cake walk.

Gas? The diesel is rated at 32K 5th wheel and 36K Gooseneck. The gasoline engine is rated at 16.8K. I'm not finding your 17.2K number.
