Power cord reel

I asked a question on a sister forum so some here may recognize it. Deals with power cord reels. Not power cord storage reels but "working" reels, a powered power cord reel. A few manufacturers of RV trailer install them, Northwood in the top end Silver Fox/Grande Ronde and many motorhomes do. My 2007 Itasca Horizon, a 40' DP, did.

I dislike lugging the 50 amp cord and my travels are frequent stops on a trip, not go and setup for weeks/months at a time. I have found 2 brands, Glendinning and Shoreline that make powered cord reels. Similar in design and cost. The issue with me installing one is space. The basement pass-thru storage is narrow and not terribly tall. The reel type with slip rings will fit with not a lot of room to spare. My motorhome had a Glendinning "tub type" but the height and width of the pass-tru is not big enough. That type cord reel wire is also hardwired and does not have slip rings which "can" be problematic.

Are there any members here who have installed one after the fact? What did you choose and what issues did you have? There has to be an access to get the cord out and it seems that going down through the basement floor is the best. Need an appropriate "door" of sorts.

Clunker, save your self some money and space, make a cord out of 6/4 SOOW cable. I carry 40’ of it and it way easier to coil and store than the cable that came with your trailer. I store 40’ in a 3 gallon bucket with our 30 to
50 amp dog bone.
