When we traveled the Blue Ridge Parkway, we could not take our fiver because of the low clearance overpasses. We stayed in Cherokee just South of the casino; don't remember the name of the campground. Also stayed in Asheville, Bristol, TN, Galax, VA, Staunton, VA and Luray, VA. These were all decent campgrounds close to the Parkway. Especially liked the mountain music center near Galax. RV Park Reviews will find the names of these campgrounds.

How far North?

Fairy Stone SP in Virginia is nice, not too far off the PW.

Lovers Leap - recommended side trip without the trailer. On Rt 58 just a couple miles from where the BRP crosses 58 at Meadows of Dan.

Lynchburg NW / Blue Ridge Parkway KOA about a mile off the PW on Rt 130/Elon Rd. Stayed there a few years ago, new ownership had just taken over and were fixing it up. Nice place, nice people. 20 minutes or so from Lynchburg.

You didn't say when, if you're in the SW Virginia area at the end of July there's Floydfest in Floyd, which is just down the mountain from Lovers Leap. Might need to make area reservations last year for that though.

It looks like Fairy Stone SP only has electric hookups, don't know if that matters. Just North of there though is Smith Mountain Lake SP and there are several nice campgrounds right in that area.
