They have to know better...

Power trailer jack... when they install it they slide it down a 2" hole. The mounting holes in the jack line up with pre drilled holes in the frame just behind the ball. They attached the jack with self tapping screws through the jack and into the frame. Stand there and study that... all of the weight is pushing up on the 3 self tappers. This is not my camper but this is the self tapping screw locations.

I will have to through bolt these dudes.

None of the tongue jacks I have removed/replaced have been held on with self tapping screws, they have all been fully threaded bolts.

What Chuckster said. We have had a number of trailers/RV's, equipment trailers, flat beds, etc. None have ever been put on with self tapping screws. That would be the very first thing I fixed. Sounds odd, however.

Its funny, I put my own jack on and I don't recall fi they are self tapping or not. They came with the husky brute jack I bought however.

I do know they specified a torque rating, which leads me to believe they are self tapping. In my minds eye, I don't recall pulling any nuts off the bottom when I removed the original one.

I mounted one of my sway bar's myself, and that use self tapping screws, and I trust that 110%.

Anyways, I agree probably a better way than self tapping, however I have had no issues (though still not 100% mine is self tapping).

Ok I stand corrected. Looked at the HB website, and it says use UNC bolts of grade 5 or better. So now I think I may have reused the bolts or it came with some, I cannot recall this 100% and the instructions are not clear on it.

So there must be a nut welded onto the frame or something as these are not self tapping.

Gotta admit, when I installed mine I used bolts & nuts. But maybe the self threading screws have enough bite to hold. Who knows unless somebody tries it? I'd adopt a wait and see attitude.

But you're right, it seems crazy that all that weight is supported by 3 threaded bolts.

Three bolts are the standard for mounting the Jacks. Power or not.
