Replacing flooring

We have a 35 foot 2003 Montana. We would like to replace the center portion of the living area floor with laminate. We would leave the slideouts with carpet. Is there a problem with this with the slideouts marking the laminate? We have someone coming out on Thursday, and would like to know if there would be any problems.

I was in a brand new 2015 3791RD 2 weeks ago on a dealer lot, one of the first things I noticed was the marks from the kitchen slide out on the nice faux hardwood flooring. I cant imagine it had been opened and closed more that half a dozen times and already had the scratches. Could be an alignment problem I guess, but once those marks are there I tend to see them every time I walk in

I put Traffic Master Allure down in our old 5er. Had it a year with the kitchen and living room slides opened and closed several times, never noticed any marks. One thing that I did notice was the larger drop from the slide to the floor. The carpet created a transition, without it the height difference between the two floors is more noticeable. Doesn't hurt anything, just more noticeable. Here is an after pic, if you look close you can see the transition in front of the couch..

Thanks for your reply to our post. Do you think that the drop occurred because of the difference in the height from the carpet to the type of flooring that you used. The laminate is almost the same height as the carpet.

It was definitely the difference in height. The Allure laminate that I used is only about 1/8" thick. The carpet and pad are much thicker, 1/2-3/4". It didn't affect anything, just made for a more aggressive transition. Just wasn't something I thought about ahead of time so was a bit surprised when I noticed it. I could have put down a 1/4" underlayment that would have helped, but didn't know/think about it till it was too late.

You mentioned the slide out issue. We have a Cougar and our slide out has a hard front plastic edge that now drags on the carper and leaves a mark. I don't see how to adjusted or take it off, did yours have a like leading edge? Does the slide out have rollers or any other support???

The plastic leading edge is common and yes ours had it as well. It drags on the carpet, but was high enough not to drag on the flooring. If I remember correctly, the kitchen slide had one roller on it under the cabinets, don't remember anything under the living room slide.

Howdy All;

Just basic curiosity leads me to ask if it would be practical/feasible
to raise the floor level by adding a layer of plywood to compensate
for the height of the carpet and padding?

Thanks for the response bsmith0404 and did you leave the carpet under the plastic edge, looks difficult to pull out!!! I also think it may help on with the slide out smoothing the travel.

hankaye- I would not add wood to bring the floor up higher as that may cause the slide out to rub the vinyl and damage it. the more gap the better I think....

Put in the Allure flooring six months ago. Made some slider strips for when we move the slides in/out. No marks or scuffs at all after many uses!
