Sewage Tote Storage

Greetings!

One of my best friends and fellow RV'er just purchased one of the large Blue Sewage Totes (affectionately called "Big Blue").

He has a Starcraft Travel Star Hybrid and tows it with a Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo

He plans on purchasing the rack for the back of the rig and strapping Big Blue to the rack while traveling (probably ratcheting straps).

He does not want to store Big Blue inside the rig when the camper is in storage.

Does anyone else here have a solution to secure their storage totes with a lock to the back rack or elsewhere outside of the camper when in storage? The storage area is gated, but things do disappear from there easily.

There is no place to loop a chain through 'ol Big Blue.

Thanks!

Dave

He could set it on the ground under the back of the RV and chain/cable it to the back bumper, that way it's out of sight, out of the sun and secure. Well as secure as can be expected with a plastic container with a padlock holding it to the RV.

I carried mine around for 5 years and used it twice. Now it stays in the shed.

Mine has the tow handle that slides into the receiver of the tote and is held in with a pin. That pin is pretty close to the size of a padlock shaft. I'd get a long padlock and lock it through the pin hole and the end of a looped cable.

A padlock will fit around the axle of my tote. Granted, the axle can be yanked out of the tote with some effort, but that's the second-best option I see.

On my pop-up a few years back, I strapped it to the framing underneath, between the tongue and axle with good ole ratchet straps, then made a slide in with unistrut and attached rollers to the top of the tank. slid in and out great and locked in with a bungee cord, stored very well there ; never locked it up, figured no one wanted my stinky tank anyway...don't carry one now, just hangs in the shed now. (Stores well there too! LOL)

This thread from RV.NET may help:

http://www.rv.net/forum/index.cfm/fu...pging/1/page/1

I also did a google search on rv blue tote carry, clicked on Images, and got dozens of photos of ingenious ways folks are carrying their totes.

Before you click on images, there are a bunch of links to threads on other forums with even more info on the topic.
