tacky slide lube, suggestions for alternative?
Doing some maintenance and started on my dinette slide and put some seal treatement on my seals, that went well enough but I used the slide treatment on my slide mechanism and rail etc.. it says Dry Lube but it is still lightly tacky on the slide rails and mechanisms after 12 hours.. I dare not pull the slide in. I used
Protect All Slide Out Dry Lube..After I used it I read some reviews on it and it had overall good reviews but a few found like I did that it stayed slightly tacky and never fully dried.
So Im going to use some kerosene (maybe brake cleaner?) and wipe it all off per the recommendation on the can and start again with something different.
Knowing something wet or tacky is going to attract dirt im open t a better lube.
Im looking at the 3 in 1 silicone lube..but it wont b dry.. Any Suggestions?
Thank you!

I had 2 cans of that stuff and threw it away. I was having trouble with my slides jerking and the first thing the dealership did was use it on the seals and they make another product for the slide bar. After they put it on, while it was still wet the slide went from bad to much worse. Like you said, when I got home it wasn't a lube, it was more like a sticky glue, and like you, I scrubbed the stuff off every place they put it and threw every product made by that company in the trash. I think others may have had better luck but I thought it was garbage.
Don't remember what I cleaned it off with but just be careful with what you use so it does not damage the seal or the trailer finish. I initially bought Zep 45 to use and it worked well for the slide bar. For the seals I use either Aerospace 303 or I have also just used a cheap Pledge like product - they both work but I like the way the 303 sort of absorbs in and it is supposed to be UV resistant.

Thanks SOURDOUGH.. Yea what I used on the seals doesnt seem too bad,it dried and seems pliable and a little slicker. The stuff I used on the rails and slide mechanisms underneath is very much like glue, Im glad I didnt do all 4 slides and waited to see how this was going to turn out first. Im thinking that silicone slide lube would be good, but it would not be a dry lube..

Another product i've used with success is WD 40 Specialist dry lube or something like that;

WalMart usually has it as well.
I use it all around the house.

Agree w/ Sourdough on the Zep and 303 combo. Never had a issue with slide jerking until I used the 'slide lube'. Used Simple green to remove all of the gummy residue, let it dry and then doused the DARCO with the Zep 45. Usually use a rag to apply the 303 on the rubber side and top seal.

O.k well I cheated a little.. I used brake cleaner to get the residue of the old slide lube crap off there..Its just what I had laying around.. seems to have worked well Ill let it dry and then reapply.. So I found the WD-40 special dry..So that drys quickly and is powdery or what?
The other one mentioned ZEP, have never heard of, is that a slide lube or what?

Zep 45
Zep 45 is just a lube with PTFE, so they say. Only have found it on Amazon. a 2pak for $25. Its a good lube overall seems to be good on lots of stuff (rv springs!). I carry a can of it rather than wd40 as it works well for most things and the slide.

On my old rig, which was gear-driven, the Protect-All Dry Lube worked OK; when I needed to reapply it, I took the old coat off with plain old paint thinner and a chip brush. The PTFE lubes are probably best for being non-tacky. The ZEP is a wonderful lube for the Darco lining under the slide.

The wear bar is under the slide. You can see it by pulling down the bottom seal and peering under there with a light or just retract the slide a foot or 2 and look at the floor a few inches inside the wall. It's a squarish plastic looking bar that extends across the width of the slide.
