CAMCO Winterization Valve Failure

Just posting this in case anybody else has a similar issue:

Last year, I had some water pump issue that I troubleshot, with the help of the folks on this forum, to be that the pump was sucking a tad bit of air. As a result, it would not shut of as it should when the faucet or demand was closed. Found to be a missing rubber grommet on the inlet line. Fixed that and used all year with no issues.

Ok, fast forward to this year, or actually tonight....Took the top cap off the CAMCO winterization valve and installed the hose to suck up the RV antifreeze, and pump just ran and would not shut off. It DID NOT suck up any antifreeze....Switched the level back to normal, and got water pressure again, but pump would not shut off.

When I moved the valve from normal to the winterize position, I heard a faint sound of sucking air....Shuttled the valve back and forth one more time, and sure enough, I could hear air sucking in....I shut everything off, disconnected the lines and removed the winterization valve completely. Hooked the hose up to inlet side of pump, and went ahead and winterized the camper as normal.

When I was done, I took a look at the camco valve I took out, and the level itself was loose in the housing....I'm convinced it was leaking at the lever ...or I did something wrong, but I don't think I did.

In short, I won't buy another cheap one. I'll spend the money for a good. one. Again, just posting in case my PIA experience tonight can help anybody having similar issues.

Thanks for the heads up. Camco makes a lot of stuff; I've never seen any of it that is top of the line.

CAMCO is the "toy cars made out of old beer cans" that we used to get from Japan, just after the end of WW2. If "Dollar Tree" or "Everything's a Dollar" sold RV supplies, they'd be made by CAMCO..... "nuff said"

Cameo, if Ronco made RV products they would pose a serious threat to Camco.

For you young'un's I'll save you the search. https://www.ronpopeil.com/#products

I don't suppose I could interest anyone in a 'pocket fisherman?' Okay, maybe the 'vego-matic?'
