Well I am in the process of selling our 2001 Ram 2500 with PacBrake, the PacBrake is run by compressed air. The kit came with a 150 psi compressor and small tank. Used to run the Kleinn 102 air horns, and had an air chuck under the hood for airing tires and such.
New 2016 doesn't have air , I am in the process of fixing that issue, just got a Viair 1007 with 2.5 gallon air tank, and 150 psi compressor likely this weekends project to get installed. I also ordered a Kleinn 102 air horn.

I am not going to go through a lot of trouble (and expense) to make a rarely occurring inately inconvenient thing more convenient.

Not overkill for us. We have the same compressor because out 5thwheel tires run 110 psi cold. Little compressors can’t get up that high. Luckily we have our on board generator if we need to run it on the side of the road

I carry a porter cable pancake compressor. Builds pressure quickly and high psi. Downside is you'll need 110 volt power to use. Up side is it is easily shared if needed.

I have the same compressor as Tbos. Small, light, recovers fast, works great. Wouldn't go out without it.
