Replacing fuses

Ok I admit that this is probably a dumb question, but I need to know. When replacing fuses should you turn batteries and/or electricity off?

What fuses are you referring to?

Fuses 12 VDC circuits
Breakers 110 VAC circuits

If you recall there are thermal fuses that reset theselves after a while automatically. nobody shutting off/disconnecting 12 VDC source. I am sure you have changed fuses in a car without disconnecting the battery. Same here

In the real world there are 12VDC fuses and 12VDC breaker. There are also, obviously 120VAC fuses and 120VAC breakers. I work on 4160VAC breakers and contactors for starting machinery....and yes, there are 5000V rated fuses too. In fact, there are fuses that are rated much higher than that, as well as breakers that are rated higher than that.

I blew 15 amp fuse replacing light bulb with Led. Tried replacing fuse and it was sparking as I tried putting it in. I'm not comfortable with electricity and sparks!

Did you turn off the lights and whatever else fed from that fuse? If you don't turn off whatever is pulling a load then it will spark.

If you have that level of sparks from a led light, I would say take that led bulb back out and check it, sounds like you may have a direct short across the 12 VDC in that socket.
