Satellite Hookups not working

We are about to take our 2015 Montana 3402RL out on its first voyage. I had it home over the weekend going through the systems and trying to get our new Dish Tailgater to work. I had previously activated it at home and verified all is working.

On the Montana there are 3 connections in the convenience center; 1 coax, 1 satellite main, and 1 satellite bedroom.

Behind the main TV there are 2 coax jacks. One I verified goes to the antenna, the other I successfully toned to the satellite main in the convenience center.

In the bedroom there are 3 coax jacks. 1 of them is tied to the amp and antenna, and I have turned it on and off, with no luck getting satellite signal. The other 2 coax jacks are in their own plate.

The main room coax cables are different colors too. The one that is tied to the roof antenna is white, while the bottom one is red.

In the bedroom the same colors match the dual coax plate.

The Dish receiver is the 211z and during boot up it requires me to tell it what state I am in (Arizona), then it begins the scan. It fails during the scan.

I am thinking there are too many splitters or I am not running the cables correctly despite using a coax toner and knowing which goes where. Anyone else been able to solve this?

The 2 on one plate in the bedroom, are they connected with a short coax forming a loop? Basically out and then back in?

No, but they could be. There is nothing on the plate to indicate anything other than it's for satellite, but not which connection is which. Also, there is nothing in the owners manual - which I am not the least bit surprised.

Okay, never mind then lol. Some models have a loop. It allows you to take the booster/splitter out of the circuit.

King Tailgater

Hey all I am new here,
I am having the same issue with my King Tailgater, I have tried different ways and called Dish and they were no help.
This is what I tried; I hooked the 50' cable to the trailer connection for the Satellite Cable connection in and I only picked up two satellites and did not get all the programming and when I tried a HD channel, I lost the signal. Then I connected the cable through the window to the receiver it worked great this was all in the Livingroom. Now I hooked the 50’ cable to the bedroom witch is closer to the bedroom connection in the trailer and it worked fine as long as I used the primary connection on the King Tailgater if I connected to the auxiliary connection it did not work. As long as I connected to the receiver directly, it worked great, so then I got a two RG6 25’ cable and hooked it up to the trailer connections one to the Livingroom and then bedroom everything worked great. I think it is the cable length and the splitter that are in the trailer that is reducing the satellite strength. I hate to do what is next but may be the only solution is to mount cable connectors on the outside wall of the trail where the TV’s are or go under the trail and find where the cable comes in the each TV and cut the cable and add a connector to a shorter distant to each receiver/TV.

I had both rooms working with a 25' cable connected to the connections for the trailer but 50 feet just won't make it.

When I was doing dish stuff, I had a meter for signal strength (cheap). I'd use that to trace it. The catch will be finding your splitter - making sure you have good signal into and out of the splitter.

Here's what I have:
http://www.amazon.com/Lava-Electroni...+signal+finder

There are nicer ones out there. If you've got a digital volt meter that does continuity, I'd probably start with that to make sure you don't have just a flat break.

I have checked both ends of the cable and it's open so no short and I get 75 oms I think there is to much cable and to many spliters in the trailer and it drops the signal strength just enough not to work all the time

darrylwt, Howdy;

In keeping with the lack of "sense of accomplishment" that is duly noted throughout
our keystone forums, I'll simply refer you to a recent post;

Every satellite cable I've run into was RG6, RG59 was for antenna/cable. Have seen numerous ends not put on right.
