weight distribution hitch

I have just upgraded my truck to a 2014 ram 2500 diesel, my trailer is only 4700 lbs dry tongue weight 500lbs do I still need to use my wd hitch

Most factory receivers are rated 5000/500 without a WDH, so if you're trailer is 4700/500 empty, then you'll be heavier than the maximum weight capacity of the receiver unless you use a WDH.

There is a decal or a plate attached to the receiver on the truck which will clarify the maximum allowable weights both with a WDH and without one.

Your 2014 2500 should have a class V receiver, rated for much more weight than your trailer has (12,000 and 1,200 lbs). Personally, I have a WD hitch and haul a lot of trailers/RVs, I seldom put the bars on with lighter trailers. I do have a 3500 dually so a bit of a difference there.

So I need to lower my WD hitch about 6inches, what is the adaptors name havent been able to find one

Its called a shank. They come in different lengths (drop).
