Cougar 28RBS WATER PUMP
Folks, I'm having a hard time diagnosing an issue with my water pump.
Water pump works fine for first day or so but at some random point in time the pump won't shut off. I open a tap and pump begins. Close the tap and pump slows to very slow speed but won't shut off.
There are no leaks, air or water, anywhere that I can find, and the battery is almost fully charged.
It's becoming a problem for trips that are longer than two days.
Any ideas on what may be causing this issue ?

It will run to fill the hot water tank for alittle while if your useing hot water. If it is NOT turning off than there is a air or water leak. Check every faucet again including outside shower and make sure they are off. Check the pressure valve on the hot water tank for leaks. How about the toilet. If it will not shut off where is the water going.

I appreciate the tips. Unfortunately I have checked all you mentioned, many times. It's driving me nuts! Not to mention if we don't catch it running it will drain our batteries. That's happened already.

My only thought is the water pump is somehow failing. Not sure if that's a possible symptom of failure.

You may have a scored/scratched roller in the pumphead. If you do, it will run consistently, trying to build up pressure, but the water is leaking back past the damaged roller and not moving into the water line to build the pressure. If you have a Sureflo pump you can buy a replacement pump head, but on FloJet pumps, it's cheaper to just replace the entire pump. Don't throw away the old one, there's a functional 12 volt motor on it and you might need it at a later date

Why would it only do this after a day or so of use?

If no leaks, it may be the pump itself has a bad check valve or pressure switch. We have always been in the habit of turning off the pump when we are not using water.( not an easy thing to do with kids) It is also can prevent major damage if you do get a leak that no one notices.

Possibly because the defective part functions as expected until it reaches a particular orientation, then it stops working ???
Why does your car go, "bump, ding ding, bang for weeks on end and then, when you take it in for service, it's "silent as can be" ???
