Placement of batteries and propane tanks

Is there a particular reason the batteries are behind the propane tanks on the Passport trailers? My Yukon has barn doors and I can't open the second door if the trailer and Yukon are aligned. I have to steer slightly to the right when stopping, giving the door enough clearance with the tanks.

I'm not sure that I want to move things around, but I'm curious in case I decide to down the road.

Gas attack

They are probably outside because of the gases a wet cell battery can give off.
Don't want they in an inside compartment so it is cheap and easy to put them outside.

I think he's asking... "is there a reason the batteries are behind the propane tanks and not out in front of them with the propane tanks snugged up closer to the front RV wall?"

If that's the question, I have no idea as to the answer other than possibly you put out front what needs access most frequently.

Yeah, that's what I meant. Thanks for saying it more clearly!

Here's one theory, but I don't have any way to substantiate it:

In years gone by, the front of many travel trailers were pointed with the midline being the most forward projection. Putting the battery behind the propane tanks was more or less, tucking them in a place where they would fit. The propane tanks were, on those models, put as far back as possible without hitting the nose of the trailer. But, there was a lot of wasted space on the A-frame behind the propane tanks, so it was a natural place to put the spare tire and the battery. The spare "migrated" to the rear bumper, but the battery/propane configuration remained unchanged even as the shape of the trailer front cap evolved to flat, then rear sloping and now, sort of back to where it used to be. TV antennas spent a few years mounted to the A-frame "back then" as well. Then they moved to the side wall and eventually to the roof.
