20 Amp Feed
Finished installing the extra 20A fee yesterday so I can run space heaters without having to turn things off and won't trip my 30A breaker.
Still have to silicone the outside. There's also another outlet under the gall y silverware drawer so we can run two heaters in the living area.

That looks great I would like to install something like that in my small pull trailer.
I would like to hook up my gen and plug it into a outside outlet that would feed a few inside outlets.

Bob,
Very clean installation!
I am going to install a similar circuit in our Cougar in the next month or so.
A couple of questions if I may.
1-- In your first picture I assume that the cover protects a "male" end plug that a standard "extension" cord will plug into. If so where are they available?
2-- Your second picture seems to show a breaker, I assume in line with the new receptacles. Do you deem this necessary as your cord will be plugged into a receptacle on the pedestal that is breaker protected?
Again, a very clean looking installation, thanks for sharing.

The inlet is a 20A Marinco part. You can order them from anywhere that sells Marinco.
In my opinion, the circuit breakers are necessary. The pedestal breaker will protect the wire from the pedestal to the trailer breaker, and the double breaker protects the individual circuits. It may not be required on a trailer, but I'm just used to doing everything according to marine standards, and if i were doing this on a vessel I would have to do it this way. The reason for using a double pole breaker is that neutral is a current carrying wire.
BTW, I used a piece of King Starboard to mount the inlet because the only seal it has is a rubber ring and I didn't think I would be able to screw into the 1/4" plywood on the side of the trailer hard enough to get a seal without stripping the wood. I used stainless screws to attach the Starboard to the trailer wall, then silicone around the edges for a seal. A piece of plastic cutting board from WalMart would do the same thing and a lot cheaper.

I like this mod and want to do it. Do you also connect the circuit to the ground bus in the camper or just rely on the ground at the pedestal thru the cord?

I just get ground from the pedestal. All of the outlets in the pedestal are going to share the same ground, so you can do it either way. Since the power cord is three conductor, there's no reason to not use the pedestal ground.

I forgot to tell you thanks for the info Bob. I found the parts on Ebay, probably alot cheaper than full retail by the looks of them. I haven't had time to tackle it yet, been building my polar package and repairing small things to make it more comfortable. We get hit with a blue northern today and ice and snow Saturday, so we'll see if all my efforts pay off.
The name of the items on the breaker and plate are Blue Sea brand. Just search for the best prices. Here's a couple I saved on Ebay.

I hate to pop your bubble, but West Marine sells the single pole blank plate for $19.95 and the double pole for $21.95..

Havent looked yet, but thinking about also tying the outlets into a smaller breaker in the main camper panel with a switch that would switch between this and the outside 20 amp. Something akin to a generator switch, have to study that one.
That way in warmer weather when I didn't need the heaters I could just use the outlets for iphone chargers, etc, without the additional cord. Although it may not be worth the time....

You can do that, but you're moving towards spending a lot more money than you need to spend to do what you want to do. It requires an input selector switch that will disconnect one leg and lock it out completely so you can't have them both on even momentarily. I would advise doing the 20A inlet and calling it good. You'll want to use it during hot weather to run a couple of fans.

Probably right, sounds like a lot more work (and money) than simply plugging in the cord which I'll have with me anyway. Like most of my projects, I start to get way away from the initial intent.
I think I will stick with the original plan. Thanks again for the original post and feedback.

This mod inspired me. I saw a MH last fall where the owner had installed a seperate line from microwave to an outside plug in. When connected to a 30 amp service he would plug the microwave into the pedistal 20 amp. That way he could run the microwave and air at the same time.
Been thinking about that ever since. Will have to check the breaker box to see how things are connected.
Would it be possible to install some sort of A/B switch for when I actually am connected to 50 amp? Or should I just bypass the house service all together?
