Montana High Country 318RE

Seriously considering the 318RE. Was also thinking about the KZ Durango 355rl but I am worried about the weight. The 318RE dry weight is 9,183 and the 355rl is 10,784. Max towable with my truck is 12800 so I feel a bit more comfortable with the 318RE after I pile in a bunch of gear.

Any comments on the the 318RE would be sincerely appreciated.

don't forget hitch weight and figure that in to the load cap of your truck.

I could be a bit confused here. What I think your are saying is don't forget the weight of the hitch (~250 lbs) + other things going in the truck like fuel, passengers (wife and I), and two cats.

Or are you talking about hitch weight of the 318RE which is 1930 lbs? I'll have to do some more reading here.

SORRY TO CONFUSE YOU I MENT THE WEIGHT ON THE BALL IE. THE 1900 LBS THAT HAS TO BE FIGURED IN TO THE GVW OF YOUR TRUCK SO IT IS THAT WEIGHT AND YOU THE WIFE THE STUFF AND THE FUEL. ALSO THAT FIGURE IS THAT THE FACTORY WEIGHT EMPTY. IF SO YOU NEED TO ADD THE WEIGHT OF THE BATTERY(S) AND THE PROPANE TANKS THAT WILL INCREACE THE HITCH WEIGHT.

Bigfoot,

Our 381RE with everything on it, including the leveling system, tipped the scales at 9450 lbs dry from the factory. Most info on the 'net on my 2004 Silverado 2500HD says its towing is 10,200 lbs. But I have factory pamplet from 2004 on the 2500HD and 3500 that states the max towing capacity starts at 12,000 lbs for the two trucks, regardless whether it has the 6.0L gas, the 8.1L gas, or 6.6L diesel. In the real world, my 2500HD 6.0L is slow out of the hole, but does fine once moving forward. Backing up a small incline is a whole different story. I now try and avoid back-in sites with a slight uphill entrance to the pad. Your Ram probably won't even break a sweat with the 318RE. I say buy the 318RE. We love ours.

Jerry
