Sewer cap surprise

After draining the black and both grey tanks, I did the black tank flush (with all valves open). I then closed the grey valves, but when I went to close the black tank valve it did not appear to go all the way back in (maybe a 1/2 inch less then it normally pushes in). Upon arriving home I pulled the sewer cap and was greeted by about 10 ounces of clear (thank you tank flush) water.

I am not sure what the issue is, but I would assume that once I close the valves no water should pass.

I searched the forumn on this topic and found a few threads, but all were very technical, such as dropping the underbelly etc.

I would appreciate some feedback on how a non-mechanical person could do something to stop this. Maybe the seals are dry or bad or something like that. Maybe the push rod wire for the release is kinked and is simple to fix.

Any advice is as always much appreciated.

Benrubid, Howdy;

Not really much choise here, If it's mechanical you will need to get in there...
A 'kinked' wire will never regain it's full length again, should it be a 'rolled gasket you will have to either replace it or physically straighten it out
by hand.
Sorry, that's just the way things are. at least it's empty and washed out

Looking at your signature I would think you are still under warranty??? If it is a bad valve and you are not handy it is a job for the dealer. BUT, are you sure that there is nothing blocking the valve. A foreign object (other than construction debris) blocking the valve will not be covered under warranty.

First thing I'd do is re-flush the tank and see it I could get the valve to close... Then fill the tank and let it sit for several hours to see if there is still a leak... might be no more that a piece of paper hung up in the blade valve..

If it was mine I'd get one of those clear elbows that has a garden hose connection on it. I'd hook that up (not with my drinking water hose) and try to backflush the valve. Maybe it just has a bit of crud in it. Cheap and easy, and often works IMHO.

I had the dealer install a extender on the black valve and they did it while the valve was open. It caused about a 3/8 gap. The first time I hooked up at the campground I got a shock seeing blue water coming out at me (thankfully no one had used it yet). I removed the extension rod and fixed the problem.

Black tank

I had a similar problem when I dewinterized my trailer. Long story short there was a piece of grey spray foam that cam out of the drain, Something from construction. I only got "pink" water that time. The foam was jamming the valve from closing all the way. it is OK now but a little stiff on the push rod.
