Recliner and Slide Issue - Cougar 291RLS

In our year long search for a fiver one thing I wanted was access to the B/R and Bath with the slides in. Everyone I talked to and what appeared to me that there would be access. During the PDI I had them close the slide and at that time I found out the recliner had to be moved into the doorway. This kills the access to the B/R and the bath for my wife. I was able to climb over, but she could not. Not only that I tore our vinyl while trying to move the recliner back into its spot.

Has anyone figured out an alternate location to put the recliner instead of the door? I was thinking of strapping it someway on the couch.

You can turn it upside down on the seat of the couch. You should have straps that came with the camper to strap it to the couch. This is the way our 27RLS was equipped. Instead of doing this, I got a pair of cloth garden gloves with the rubber fingers, cut off the fingers and taped each finger to a chair leg. This will prevent the chair from tearing the vinyl floor. The 27RLS has two doors so we don't use that door when the slide it in.

When we were buying our Cougar, it was a toss up between the RLS and the RK model. When we found that you had to put the chair up on the couch to bring the slide in, it was RK all the way and never regretted it. Everytime I bring the slide in my back thanks me. We have access to everything but the tv with the slide in. I have an inverter outlet for the bedroom tv if the urge strikes. As mentioned above putting something on the chair legs like carpet glides may stop the damage. ...... Hank

Our recliners have a circular base and the dubs on the bottom are about 1/2" tall and 1" wide. So putting the ends of gloves on them will not work. At first we thought about putting the felt stick-on pieces on them, but these will not slide on the carpet. If I can find some small plastic slider pieces to put on them I would try them.

The biggest issue is of where to put the chair instead of in the doorway. I will check to see if I can strap it to the couch someway.

I now on our rear living trailer we can turn the chairs sideways and push them up close to the back wall and the slide will clear the one and the other one we strap down to the floor and it is clear of the entry door. Not sure if you can do that with yours or not. We have the euro style chairs with the round basses.

Our Springdale is much the same floorplan (rear living room) and we have enough space to simply turn the chair facing the table between the chairs and close the slide. You may also have enough room. If you can, just turn the chair to either face the street side wall or the table between the chairs and eyeball to see if there's enough room. You may be lucky

Put the chair on the couch

Reuben,

When traveling back with our 291RLS from Michigan, I put one recliner on the couch and strapped it there upside down. The arms rested on the couch and the back on the floor, there should be straps that came with the camper to strap it to the couch. The door side recliner sits sideways facing the table and there are straps to secure it, also. This will give you a walk way thru to the bed and bath. The recliners are very heavy and we had a couple of swivel/reclining Euro chairs that we switched the recliners for. Much easier to move but I will secure them in the same way.

When we go back home in 4 weeks I will look for the straps. I don't recall seeing any, but hopefully they will be stuck in a cabinet somewhere. If I cannot find them I will rig up something.
