I bought a 20' telescoping flag pole designed to be placed in the ground. It came with a 2' pvc pipe to cement in the dround for the pole to slip into. I went to HD and bought 2 metal pipe clamps to fit and screwed it to the inside of A frame. The flag pole slips thru the pvc and rests 9n the ground. I've used this setup for about 9 years and it's never failed or become loose.
I also illuminate the flag so it stays deployed at night. On my battery lid I installed an SAE receptical for power. I use an inexpensive 12v landscaping spoy light that I mount on top of the tongue jack with velcro straps and plug it in to the SAE outlet. The flood light illuminates the flag and front cap in a soft light without blinding you if you walk along either side of the trailer.

This picture was taken more as a how to as far as changing out and using the breakaway cable on my trailer, but it does show the flag holder that I made and installed. Mine is a steel plate that is bolted to the top of the kingpin area and it was a somewhat involved project. There were already two holes on top of the kingpin area, so I didn't have to drill new holes....but, they were like 1/2" diameter and I had to find and buy a couple of hollow wall anchors that would accept a 10-24 screw size, and then make it fit/work in the existing 1/2" holes. I made it work and it's performed flawlessly for the past couple of years. Having said that, if I were to do it over, I'd still use a piece of metal....maybe steel or possibly aluminum plate and put some of the very strong circular magnets on each corner of the plate. They sell them on Amazon and other places and some of them are so strong you can hardly pull them off of a steel object....like the top of the kingpin box would be. You can get them that are stuck on with adhesive or the kind that have a hole in the middle of them and then use a screw and nut to attach them to the underside of the plate. Doing it that way would make a very strong anchor for attaching the flag holder to the front area of the trailer. Here is the pic of mine....

[QUOTE=JRTJH;456960]One reliable and not too expensive ($50) flagpole and mount is this one. It's easy to use, just put the mount under the tongue jack and crank your jack down to hold it in place. With 500 pounds of tongue weight (or more) holding it in place, there's little chance it will blow over.
Exactly the one that I use as well.... works fantastic under the tongue jack...

Looks pretty nice. Now if I only had a friend that could weld I have a few that work with wood but none that I am aware of for welding.

I needed a flag holder at the last minute and made one that suction cups to the side of my camper. It worked so good, I think other than trying to paint over the orange, I think I it's a keeper!

I used 2 hose clamps to mount the Flag Pole Bracket to the Suction Cup Lifter.
Harbor Freight Dual Suction Cup Lifter:

Home Depot Flag Pole Bracket: (Similar to the one I used, mine isn't white)

I made one just like in the picture. I place it under the front leveling jack. You can also just drive over it with the tire on the rig or any tire for that fact. It works great.

Flag Poles
Poles and Holders in California makes all types of great RV Flag Poles and has a lifetime warranty. Been using this on our 2017 371 Fuzion Toy hauler for years. Very impressive.

Ok, for fifth wheels this mount is the SHIZZLE!
Works perfectly and it locks the kingpin and has a hole so you can secure bikes, and other items on your campsite.
WORKS Great and looks good to being 100% aluminum.

I like the tongue stand! Any ideas on properly lighting the flag at night? I was going to get a solar light but was wondering if they would be bright enough to properly light the flag.
Ideas?

I don't have a 5er, but for my trailer I've been using this mount on the rear bumper. I use my receiver hitch for a tray to transport my generator. I got a new heavier duty 20 foot pole and pole top light this spring. Everything was purchased thru Amazon. If anyone wants links, let me know and I'm happy to provide them. Sorry about the one pic being sideways.

I saw that on their website. Besides being pricey, $150, you can't use it with the Andersen hitch system.

To answer your question, "no" it will not hurt anything to mount a flag pole holder to your Fifth Wheel like you want to do. People mount those bubble levels on them and some even mount bicycle carriers on the pin box. I have a level mounted. 4 small screw holes and self-tapping screws. You can do the same.
Doing some internet searching, I came across this. I thought it was pretty interesting. It would be very easy to make something like this out of wood, if you did not have a LONG flag pole!
Duh ... on Edit...
Hey Leatherman, I should have looked a little closer at your post first. But! Great minds think alike! Right!

Flag mount
Anyone looking dor a good flag holder check out P.J. Sparks on Facebook. He make some pretty damn good flag holders that don't require drilling or screws.

From Canada eh!
I love collecting flags, so this is what I've done.
Purchased, at Camping World, the small triangular suction cup flag holder. You would be surprised how well they hold on a smooth fiberglass surface.
As we travel we collect various country flags, province/state flags, occasion flags such as memorial, millitary, sports ect.
Once we set up we display an appropriate flag/s in respect to our host location or event. Respecting proper protocol our country flag is always tallest and center. We are now up to three holders, displaying 9 flags.
When you break camp, the flags and holder come off, quick wipe with a damp cloth and suction cup marks are off.

The wife just bought one that you drive over and the foot of it sits under your tire, have not used it yet but have seen many of them at tailgates.
