Adding rollers to slide.

My trailer has a 14 ft slideout & it jumps & chatters a lot in & out. It just has the solid bar to slide on. I watched a video on you tube about adding rollers. Seems kind of scary attacking it with a sawzall.
Anybody done it?

I have not done it but have thought about it. I think I've probably watched the same video you reference.

Look closely at the Darco fabric under your slide and make sure it isn't being damaged by running over the wear bar - mine was causing the problems you describe. I opted to have the dealer install uhmw strips under the slide to stop the damage. It has worked so far but rollers might the cheaper, and better, solution if you can find the right rollers. Installation of the uhmw on 2 long slides cost $2200 - that's a lot of rollers.

In the interim (and you may have already done this) you might try washing the underside of the slide with Dawn and water, rinse and dry. Make sure you clean the wear bar behind the lower seal as best you can. The slide maker recommended spraying with Zep 45 - it is hard to find and costly. I tried it (had to buy a case) and it improved the operation. Have since found that WD 40 makes a product called Specialist Dry Lube if I recall. Seems to work just as well, much easier to find and much cheaper.

I have been using luitheum white spray grease it dries on the bottom of my slide for over 2 years it stops my jumping slide. Some where on this forum a member saying he thought the slide was to slick . I agree the only trouble is I have to spray under the slide not that often ,if not it will start shutting.

I did jack up the slide & wiped the bar off & then washed the fabric sprayed with simple green gave it a scrub & rinse. Haven't tried it yet. This is the biggest slideout & no rollers the smaller & lighter ones have rollers.

I think you will want a dry lube of some kind. DO NOT use the canned stuff like the RV store sells (can't remember the brand-blue/red/white can maybe?). Took mine in for the "slide mtce/adjustment" and they used that. Went from OK to I'm not leaving here like this.

How thick were the strips they put under it? How many & how did they attach them?
Found several suppliers online the stuff isn't too expensive, guessing the install was the bulk of the cost.

I believe they ordered in sheets if I recall. Cut strips 12" wide and the depth of the slide. They used an adhesive (don't remember the name) under the entire strip and placed 3 recessed screws at the front of each strip so they wouldn't move (and so they wouldn't contact the wear bar or seal). There are 3 on the living room slide - each end and middle and 2 on the kitchen slide - each end. None in the middle due to gas lines etc.

My slides were wearing/fraying the Darco on the ends. I didn't see any damage in the middle. Put the middle strip on the living room slide and appears it doesn't even touch the wear bar which is what I suspected. It looks like both of my big slides are bowed in the middle and contact only on the ends which led to the fraying of the fabric (moreso on the living room slide). The slides had been adjusted both prior to the damage and after.

They used some sort of device they have and muscle (several guys) to lift and slightly hyperextend the slides so they could get the material all the way under them and adhered.

They have worked flawlessly for the last 2? years but this last trip to FL the kitchen slide started jerking a little. Haven't had time to clean and lube it. That trip is about 5 1/2 months and seems the trailer always gets an accumulation of "something" on/under while there. We think it's stuff in the air - we stay right beside an area of tidal pools and about 300 yds, to the bay.
