And Yet Another 318SAB Stair Redo

Yup, another attempt at correcting the miserably engineered steps leading to the bed/bath rooms. I still have to put the corner moldings on the edges. On the downside, the treads are just over 7" deep which makes for some careful stepping for my size 12 feet. That being said, it is still much easier on our poor hips getting up and down the steps. I may try to come up with a way to increase the tread by a couple of inches on the bottom and middle rises as it looks like I would have room to do this and still not interfere with the furnace access. I apologize in advance for the quality (lack of) with these pictures. They were taken with my NOKIA LUMIA Windows phone.

Cheers!

Mike

Hi Mike - You have done a nice job with the steps. We also have a 2013 318sab. I've been looking at a few ways people have done the 3 step remodel and I like yours the best. I'm not very good working with wood but I might be able to do it the way you have. Thank you for posting your details in pictures.

Update, Part Two, Much Better Now

So the new steps were not working out because of the small tread depth. I had to go back to the drawing board and rebuild the steps so that the treads were deeper and more easy to go up and down on. I had to encroach even further onto the galley floor and partially block the air intake/re circulation vent for the furnace. Here is the new iteration of our stair remake. I am not a wood worker/builder at all and I realize that this project was well beyond my rudimentary skill set. I am far more comfortable with engines and wrenches Now we can move easily up and down the stairs with confidence and our feet fit more comfortably on the treads. I can still access the bottom screw, hidden now by the steps, to remove the furnace access vent. Here are a couple of pictures.

Cheers!
