B&W Gooseneck Hitch Installed

Traded in the 2009 F250 KR SRW 6.4L for a new 2012 F350 KR DRW 6.7L 2 weeks ago.
So, the new truck did not come with a 5th wheel hitch but the trade had the B&W Gooseneck turnover ball and the companion hitch for towing our Fuzion 375.
Long story short, we kept the companion hitch and ordered a gooseneck hitch for the new truck. It took 3 hours for me and a friend to install the hitch yesterday. Biggest issue we encountered was working the hitch rails between the bed and the truck frame as the passenger side rear shock needed a little trimming around the ears to get the hitch rails in. Also working above the DEF tank was something I do not relish ever having to do again!
Sure am glad the install is done though! Not sure if I would ever do that again as I spent more time on the ground under my truck than I particularly cared for.
Being only 5'10", it was all I could do to reach the underside of the bed to bolt that bugger in and get the nuts/bolts torqued. But it's done and all I have left is to hook up the 5er and do a pull test.
Bottom line, still trying to figure out if the 3 hours of my time was worth saving the $375 install cost and the soreness I am still experiencing today. Will post pics tomorrow when its light out.

This is the way I look at projects like that. If I do it I'll take my time and make sure everything is right and tight because it's mine. When someone else does it you're sort of at their mercy, it's not theirs so will they take the same care and extra effort you would?

A little late now, but when I did mine, I pulled all the bolts that hold the box to the frame, and lifted one side up enough to squeeze a 4x4 in to hold it. Made installing the rails a breeze. Meh. Next time.

Ditto on the bed bolts. I loosened the lefts a couple turns, and backed the rights out about 1/2 inch then jacked the right side up a little and the rails slid right in. I did mine myself so I could get everything right and neat. A lot of shops shove 'em together and ship 'em out.

Wish I would have raised the bed a bit as several of you have pointed out, as it was I only trimmed a small part of the shock bracket (<1/16") and even then it was on the "ears", not on the stress point.

Still, working around the DEF tank was a pain too. I do like knowing it was installed correctly and everything was torqued like it is supposed to be.
